was a growing need for more affordable housing. There was also a demand in
the Northeast for more adult communities. The population of Baby Boomers was
hitting retirement age and many began looking for communities that offered a
variety of amenities targeted towards older adults. These older adults wanted
a convenient location near hospitals, shopping centers and restaurants. They
wanted to downsize as well as reduce the maintenance and upkeep of a home.
Most assumed the only solution would be a condominium, but the majority still
